Spoerri Park: Daniel Spoerri's Surreal Sculpture Garden in Seggiano
High on the slopes of Monte Amiata, near the charming village of Seggiano, you’ll find the Spoerri Park.
Also known as Il Giardino di Daniel Spoerri, this open-air museum was founded by the Swiss artist Daniel Spoerri. The park features over 100 installations scattered across a peaceful olive grove and forested land and now includes works from a variety of artists. Visiting Spoerri Seggiano is like stepping into a dreamscape — surreal and humorous, his work is extremely thought-provoking for all who see it. The Daniel Spoerri Art legacy is not just about sculpture: it’s about storytelling, curiosity, and inviting viewers to question what they see. One of the most surprising and stand out sculptures at Spoerri park is the miniature Eiffel Tower.
This installation, crafted with artist Nam June Paik, a collaborator of Daniel Spoerri, is now one of the most iconic works that resides in the park. The tiny statue is a mix of avant-garde art and humour.
On their website it states that communication due to Paiks illness had been difficult. It’s said that he asked Spoerri to make his contribution to the park an installation as big as the Eiffel Tower and this is what he received. The best bit about the joke was afterwards it’s said that it wasn’t the Eiffel Tower he mentioned it was the Empire State Building! Like much of the park’s collection, it invites reflection on how context can radically shift meaning, turning a famous landmark into something strangely magical.
